PACARTS '08 - Maori Perform At Utulei Beach Stage
The Maori have brought a number of their people to American Samoa to participate in the Festival. From visual and literary arts, to film and performing arts, the Maori have showcased their culture strongly.
Their unmistakeable presence and the strength of the influence of traditional Maori culture and traditions on their art forms is a declaration by the Maori that they are still here and that they aren't going away.
The festival has been abuzz with talk about the Maori tattoo art, and if you have time don't hesitate to stop by their tent to observe tattoos in progress.
One need not look any further than the performing arts for examples of Maori tattoos. The dance performers have painted on them the graceful and expressive lines and curves that define Maori style and make them unique.
The performance at Utulei Beach was a tribute to the Maori warriors of the past and the present.
